| Bermuda |
Bermudagrass is the most widely used warm season turfgrass. It is a spreading grass with both rhizomes and stolons. Bermudagrass has excellent tolerance for heat, drought, salt, and wear, but cold and shade tolerance are poor. The most used improved cultivar of bermudagrass is Tifway 419. |
| Fescue |
The sod form of fescue are the turf type fescues, a finer textured type when compared to the tall fescue. It's a bunch-type species. It will do well in the transition areas of the south. In mild winters, it can provide year round color, one reason it is becoming so popular in the commercial landscape. It will suffer in the summer with both heat and disease problems, needing reseeding annually to maintain its density. |
| Zoysia |
A dense high quality turf. They have both rhizomes and stolons, but have a slow growth rate. Zousiagrasses have excellent heat and drought resistance. Shade tolerance is fair to good. There are many cultivars with Emerald and Myers being the most common. New cultivars include Zeon and El Toro. |
| Centipede |
Centipede is a moderately coarse-textured grass that forms a dense turf. It spreads by slow growing stolons. It has poor cold tolerance but has minimum maintenance requirements. Often referred to as the Lazy Mans grass. Can also be established by seed. |
